Travel day : Ko Lanta to Koh Phangan

After 4 days on Ko Lanta, we made the decision to skip Cambodia on this trip. From where we are, it will add a lot of complex travel and expense, and we’re hoping to return soon to see everything we missed. So we set off for the Gulf of Thailand. While there are a million routes, we decided on the agency with the most information available. We knew they would pick us up at 7:30am, and we’d get to Koh Phangnan around 4pm – all for 900B each ($30). The rest…as they say in Thailand “Mai pen rai”. This was another case of getting what you paid for. Sitting in the back row of a wispily air conditioned van, packed with touristas and backpacks, flying through the Thai countryside at 75mph – for 4 hours – mostly in the unmarked “middle lane” we’ve been assured exists by our previous guides. We’re safely on the ferry now, guidebooks and beers at the ready, trying to figure out where we’ll stay when we land. Koh Phangan is famous for their full moon parties, and with one coming up on Thurs, we’re hoping to catch the pre-show and be on Koh Samui before we get body painted.

You look happy in the van, Cat! Luckily you have your iPod to drown out road noises. It is barely 30 degrees Fahrenheit this morning (spring has arrived but where is it hiding?) so don’t complain too much about heat, just send a little our way….

It was less to drown out the road noise than “Sadie”, the 23 year old Wisconsin-ite traveling Thailand on $15 a day flirting with the Belgian guy sitting next to me. I’m so nosy I couldn’t hear anything else. C was too busy holding the seat in front of me in case we crashed to pay attention.
