Birmingham weekend

We had an awesome weekend in Birmingham. Thank you again to Shawn and Emily!

On Derby Day we spent a couple hours at the dog track, betting on races there and at Churchill Downs. Shawn was the big winner, picking Orb to win in a variety of combinations. None of our guesses yielded any winnings, but it was fun to cheer on the muddy horses anyway.

There’s a Porshe driving school and motorcycle museum at Barber Racetrack. Very very cool. The bikes all had descriptions and stories. We saw some amazing old bikes.

For dinner, we went to a crawfish boil! Flo Rida performed – we spent the drive there trying to name even one of his songs, and then recognized every one he played. We’ve been fans without realizing.

We had hoped to make it to Talladega on Sunday, but the forecast looked wet and we much preferred spending the 3 hour 36 minute rain delay at Pablo’s celebrating Cinco de Mayo anyway.

It was a great weekend, and fun to see friends and sleep in a comfy bed. We’ve back on the road heading to Lexington today, and Cincinnati on Tuesday.
