Guess who came to visit! We had such an awesome long weekend with Nathan, Lizzie, Kendra, Mitch and Liz.
Thursday was the nicest weather day, and everyone’s first day in town, so we decided to do the outside stuff immediately. We spent a few hours exploring Northwest Trek – a wildlife park not far from the farm. It was so cool. We saw bison and elk and mountain goats all in a woodsy habitat that you tour by bus. Then we checked out the more zoo-like part and saw all the carnivores, wisely kept separately. We saw black bears, brown bears, a mountain lion, a snowy owl…Lizzie and Nathan: What animals am I forgetting?
After lunch in bustling downtown Eatonville, we came to our farm. Lizzie was in heaven! So many goat friends and she jumped right into the pens to pet them all and pick her favorites (Goose, Sprout and Questa). Nathan thought the milking was pretty cool – there are a lot of pieces and buttons and tubes – but thought (rightly) that the bucks are stinky. We ate a bunch of cheese and toured around. It was fun to show everyone where we live and work.
On Friday, we spent the day in Seattle with Alicia and Josie – they are great your guides. We saw Pike Place Market – Josie does NOT like when they throw the fish – and even went to the top of the Space Needle! C and I had never done it, either. Great views and windy. We saw someone propose to his girlfriend – she said yes.
Saturday we had to work, so we went about our soggy business. C did chores and I spent a wet day at the farmers market.
Sunday we went to Alicia’s house to watch the Seahawks vs Texans. 10am games are going to take some getting used to. It was an exciting game and we even got to help (watch) Brian brew some beer. The we met up with Liz’s cousin for an early dinner at Elysian Fields before the Sounders game. Nathan never did get the broccoli he ordered 🙂
Everyone was leaving this morning, but not before one last visit with the goats! It was so great to spend a bit more time on the farm together.
